Celebration of 76th Republic Day of India by CGI, Cape Town

Consulate General of India, Cape Town hosted a National Day Reception to mark the 76th Republic Day of India at Taj Cape Town. The Reception brought together local dignitaries, Indian diaspora and friends of India.

Attending as Chief Guest was Ms. Benedicta van Minnen, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on the Premier and Constitutional Matters, Western Cape Provincial Parliament, representing the Premier of Western Cape Provincial Government. 

Consul General Ms. Ruby Jaspreet welcomed the guests and shared various developments and notable achievements made by India. She also touched upon various aspects of relationship at National, Provincial and City level between India and South Africa in various areas.

Representing Western Cape Province, Chief Guest Ms. van Minnen spoke at length about the historical background to the overall relationship between India and South Africa and also the ongoing cooperation in various areas between various states in India and the Province of Western Cape.

The evening witnessed a vibrant display of India’s cultural and culinary heritage. Guests were treated to mesmerizing performances —a classical flute recital by Mr. Anton van Rensburg, a Bharatnatyam item by Mrs. Divya Ranjini Ramgopal and a captivating dance performance by the Taare Dance Group exhibiting the patriotic fervor.

The Reception highlighted India’s inclusive spirit stemming from its strong democratic ethos.
