Consulate General of India, Cape Town celebrates 9th Ayurveda Day

On the occasion of Dhanteras to honor Lord Dhanvantari, who is revered as the God of Ayurveda, the Consulate General of India in Cape Town celebrated 9th Ayurveda Day under the theme “Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health” on October 29, 2024.  In line with the theme, the focus of this year’s celebrations is on showcasing Ayurveda’s potential to improve global health through innovative practices and natural treatment methods.

The participants in the celebrations highlighted Ayurveda’s role in addressing global health challenges and discussed in detail several similarities between Ayurveda and other local systems of traditional medicine in South Africa.  They also stressed upon the immense potential for further collaboration in the field of traditional medicine between India and South Africa.  

On this occasion, a short film on Ayurveda was also screened highlighting the Ayurveda’s core strength in its holistic approach to health and natural healing.  Through Consulate’s social media channels, the Post disseminated information about the campaign “I support Ayurveda” on the microsite for 9th Ayurveda Day.   

India has been observing Ayurveda Day every year on Dhanawantari Jayanti (Dhanteras) since 2016 to honor Lord Dhanvantari’s contributions and aim to raise awareness about Ayurveda’s foundational principles, healing practices and lifestyle approaches.

With the growing global demand for integrative healthcare solutions, Ayurveda is gaining recognition as a viable and sustainable alternative. Recent advancements in the field have increased the global reach and acceptance of Ayurvedic practices. Recognized internationally, Ayurveda’s practices are steadily integrating into healthcare systems worldwide.  

With legal recognition as a traditional system of medicine in more than two dozen countries,  Ayurveda is experiencing a significant expansion on the global stage. This formal acknowledgment highlights Ayurveda’s growing role in international healthcare and further strengthen its presence.  Additionally, Ayurveda products are now exported to over 100 countries, showcasing international demand and confidence in Ayurvedic practices and products.
